Meet Dr. Kavin Kelp
I am from the small town of White Deer, Texas in the Panhandle and have a twin sister Kathy. So Kavin was in keeping with the “Ka” spelling when my parents named me. After graduation from high school, I served 2 years in the Army mostly as a dental hygienist at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina.
Following military service, I attended the University of Texas at Austin and earned a BA in Biology while working for the State of Texas. I attended Dental School at the UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry graduating in 1984.
Immediately following graduation I returned to Austin and opened my first practice and became very involved in numerous dental organizations as well as community activities.
I served as President of Vaughn House, Inc., which is a halfway house for multi-handicapped deaf. The organization taught job as well as living skills so these disadvantaged people were able to live independently.
I have been president of numerous dental organizations including the Central Texas Academy of General Dentistry and The International College of Dentists Texas District as well as serving many offices in each. I was editor of a monthly dental newsletter for the Capital Area Dental Society for more than 14 years.
In 2007, a small group of dentists formed The Capital Area Dental Foundation which has provided at least a million in care to our neighbors through various programs including the Season for Caring in conjunction with the Austin American Statesman and Health Alliance for Austin Musicians Dental Program. I Chaired the Foundation 2008-2010 and continue to be involved on a daily basis.
One of my proudest honors was being nominated for Texas Dentist of the Year with the Academy of General Dentistry in 1993 and again in 2006. I also served as Chair of The Lone Star Dental Conference in 1993.

Married to Lynne for 44 years and one daughter. I enjoy family, travel, cooking, friends, college football and golf.
